Minister Uralo\u011flu stated, \u201cThus, we have extended the mandatory winter tire use period from 4 months to 5 months. This will be mandatory for all passenger and cargo vehicles on intercity roads. We also recommend that private vehicle owners install winter tires.\u201d<\/p><p>Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uralo\u011flu announced that the \u201cCommuniqu\u00e9 Amending the Communiqu\u00e9 on the Procedures and Principles Regarding the Mandatory Use of Winter Tires\u201d was published in the Official Gazette dated October 4, 2025, and entered into force.<\/p><p>Minister Uralo\u011flu stated, \u201cWe have changed the mandatory winter tire application dates. Due to seasonal conditions, the mandatory requirement, which began on December 1st and ended on April 1st, has been updated to November 15th\u2013April 15th. Thus, we have extended the mandatory winter tire application period from four months to five months.\u201d<\/p><p><strong>Mandatory for All Passenger and Cargo Vehicles<\/strong><\/p><p>Minister Uralo\u011flu stated that winter tires increase road grip in temperatures below 7 degrees Celsius, saying, \u201cThey are vital in preventing accidents. This requirement will be mandatory for all passenger and cargo vehicles on intercity roads. We also recommend that private vehicle owners install winter tires.\u201d<\/p><p>Minister Uralo\u011flu noted that winter tire application within provincial borders is determined by the Governorships, adding, \u201cGovernorships may extend the winter tire application within provincial borders by one month before and after the period determined by the Ministry. Therefore, it is crucial for our drivers to carefully follow the announcements. Those who do not comply will be fined 5,856 lira.\u201d<\/p><p><strong>&#8220;Let&#8217;s Travel with Equipment and Gear Suitable for Winter Conditions&#8221;<\/strong><\/p><p>Minister Uralo\u011flu, providing information on the details of the winter tire application, emphasized that all tires on the axles of trucks, tractors, tankers, and buses; all tires on pickup trucks, minibuses, and cars; and tires that must be replaced while driving must be winter tires. Uralo\u011flu reminded that studded tires, which can only be used on icy surfaces, also qualify as winter tires, saying, &#8220;Having or using skid chains on a vehicle does not eliminate the need for winter tires; however, let&#8217;s ensure that our vehicles are equipped with the necessary equipment, such as chains, chocks, and tow ropes.
