Workers at Germany’s Automobile Giant Volkswagen Go on Strike.

Workers at German automobile giant Volkswagen went on strike under the leadership of Germany’s largest union, IG Metall.
After the wage negotiations between IG Metall and the country failed to produce results, including the plan to close factories, unionized employees held a warning strike at the company’s 9 factories in Germany.

Each of the warning strikes is planned to last approximately two hours and will be repeated every shift.

Actions Will Spread to Other Cities

A large number of people are expected to attend a rally at Volkswagen’s headquarters in Wolfsburg, and demonstrations are expected to be held at other parts and automobile manufacturing plants.
Volkswagen announced on October 28 that it planned to close at least three factories in Germany and carry out large-scale layoffs.
Volkswagen is demanding a 10 percent cut in workers’ salaries in order to maintain its market share and reduce costs, while factory closures and layoffs are also among the company’s plans.
IG Metall last week proposed measures it estimated would save 1.5 billion euros, including waiving bonuses for 2025 and 2026, but Volkswagen rejected the proposals.

The next round of wage negotiations between Volkswagen and IG Metall is scheduled for December 9.
