Speed limit signs will be completely changed…
Speed limits, end-of-speed signs, and other relevant traffic signs on highways will be re-evaluated in terms of their compliance with current standards, location, necessity, visibility, continuity, and impact on driver behavior. Speed limits currently reduced by signs on highways nationwide, especially on divided highways outside residential areas, will be reviewed.

The 2021/ … It was recalled that the Presidential Circular No. 2021 was published in the Official Gazette No. 31384 dated February 3, 2021, and entered into force.

The Circular stated that the necessity and location of speed limit signs on highways, considering changing and evolving conditions, will be examined within the scope of the performance indicators included in the 2024-2027 Highway Traffic Safety Action Plan. Efforts will be urgently finalized to ensure uniform implementation nationwide.

According to the Circular, speed limits, end-of-speed signs, and other relevant traffic signs on highways will be re-evaluated in terms of their compliance with current standards, location, necessity, visibility, continuity, and impact on driver behavior.

Speed limits reduced by signs currently applied on highways nationwide, particularly on divided highways outside residential areas, will be revised in accordance with Article 7 of Highway Traffic Law No. 2918 dated October 13, 1983, and in accordance with the Highway Traffic Sign Standards Book published by the General Directorate of Highways. These will be reviewed based on technical criteria.

Attention… At-Grade Pedestrian Crossings Are Also Being Removed;
Furthermore, at-grade pedestrian crossings located outside residential areas will be checked for compliance with standards. At-grade pedestrian crossings, with exceptions such as those located in schools and hospitals, will be removed.

Speed limits, previously reduced by signs, will be reinstated in sections deemed appropriate, taking into account road structure, traffic density, and pedestrian mobility. In sections where speed limits are determined to be removed as a result of the assessment, the organization responsible for road construction and maintenance will implement necessary infrastructure improvements, such as ending pedestrian crossings/stops, closing median gaps that pose a traffic safety hazard, and removing traffic signs.

Speed Limits to Be Reconsidered…
The necessity and location of residential area signs on intercity highways will be reconsidered. Speed limits will be reviewed on high-capacity roads passing through residential areas, the construction and maintenance of which are responsible for municipalities, taking necessary measures to ensure the safety of life and property.

Speed limit regulations and traffic sign implementation In line with the principle that “traffic signs should be as few as possible but as numerous as necessary,” they will be standardized and made more perceptible to road users.
The work will be carried out by relevant institutions and organizations, primarily the Ministries of Justice, Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, National Education, Health, Agriculture and Forestry, and municipalities, under the coordination of the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure. The work will be completed by September 1st for the roads designated as the first priority and by December 31st for the other roads.
