List of Mandatory Equipment for Heavy-Duty Vehicles
According to the Highway Traffic Regulations (published in the Official Gazette dated July 18, 1997, No. 23053, and based on the Highway Traffic Law No. 2918), the list of mandatory equipment for heavy-duty vehicles is of vital importance in traffic controls. Truck (Cargo Vehicles)
Mandatory Equipment
• At least 2 reflectors
• At least 1 fire extinguisher
(Generally 6 kg and above is recommended; may increase depending on tonnage)
• First aid kit
• Spare tire
• Jack and lug wrench
• At least 1 chock
• Tachograph device (mandatory for commercial use)
Tractor (Truck Head / Vehicle Pulling a Trailer)
Mandatory Equipment
• At least 2 reflectors
• At least 1-2 fire extinguishers
(Generally with a total capacity of around 12 kg)
• First aid kit
• Jack and lug wrench
• Chock (at least 1, in most cases 2 is recommended)
• Tachograph device
• Additional reflectors and lighting equipment with the trailer
Bus (Passenger) Vehicles Carrying Dangerous Goods;
Mandatory Equipment
• At least 2 reflectors
• Multiple fire extinguishers
(Generally 2 or more, total capacity should be high)
• First aid kit
• Spare tire
• Jack and lug wrench
• Wheel chocks (at least 1)
• Tachograph device
• Emergency exit equipment
(window breaker, hammer, etc.)
Common Important Rules;
• All equipment:
o Easily accessible
o In working condition
o Must not be past its expiration date (especially fire extinguisher and first aid kit)
• The number and capacity of fire extinguishers may vary depending on the vehicle’s:
o Weight
o Number of passengers
o Type of cargo carried
• For ADR (Vehicles Carrying Dangerous Goods):
o Additional equipment is mandatory (protective clothing, leak kit, special labels, etc.)
