The Turkish heavy commercial vehicle market recorded record growth compared to the average March figures of the last 10 years…

Although the Turkish heavy commercial vehicle market experienced a controlled contraction in the first quarter of 2026 due to the impact of global economic pressures, a critical data point emerged that proves the long-term strength of the sector. According to data released by the Turkish Heavy Commercial Vehicles Association (TAİD), the total market closed with 6,967 sales, a 12% decrease compared to the same period of the previous year. However, despite this general decline, the segment of trucks, particularly those weighing 16 tons and above, recorded a record growth of 20% compared to the average March figures of the last 10 years. This indicates that domestic demand for the transportation and logistics sector remains strong and that there is sustainable demand for fleet investments despite postponements.

Global Contraction, Local Dynamics: The Sector Remains Strong…

TAİD Chairman Burak Hoşgören, in his assessment of the first quarter 2026 results for the heavy commercial vehicle market, emphasized that this observed contraction is directly linked to global trade flows, geopolitical developments, and access to financing conditions. Hoşgören stated that this situation is not unique to Turkey, but when looking at long-term averages, the sector’s fundamental dynamics remain strong.

A detailed analysis of the market by segment reveals that a total of 6,967 heavy commercial vehicles were sold in the first quarter:

Tractor sales: 3,177 units
Truck sales (16 tons and above): 2,804 units
Truck sales (under 16 tons): 986 units

In March alone, a total of 2,965 vehicles were sold…

Despite the contraction, the 20% growth in the truck segment signals that the domestic market will maintain its stability in the medium and long term. In contrast, the tractor segment experienced a 5% decline during the same period. The semi-trailer market similarly contracted by 8%, reaching 2,348 units.

Hoşgören noted that ongoing activities in areas such as supply chain and infrastructure investments continue to support the heavy commercial vehicle sector. Stating that the current situation is being evaluated within the framework of temporary fluctuations, Hoşgören expressed his expectation that more balanced, planned, and needs-based fleet investments will come to the forefront in the coming period.
